Food Safety and AI #AIForFood https://bcdilabs.com/food-safety-and-ai-aiforfood/ https://bcdilabs.com/food-safety-and-ai-aiforfood/#respond Tue, 12 Nov 2024 17:51:41 +0000 https://bcdilabs.com/?p=600

Food Safety and AI #AIForFood
Chicago, August 14 – 15, 2024

BCD iLabs (BCD) recently hosted an enlightening webinar on “Food Safety and AI,” where we explored the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on food safety practices across the entire food ecosystem. The session proved to be a tremendous success, delivering valuable insights into how AI is reshaping risk mitigation, enhancing traceability, and revolutionizing quality control in the food industry. Our expert panel engaged participants with practical applications of AI, showcasing the latest advancements in predictive analytics and machine learning that are instrumental in identifying potential hazards and streamlining quality assurance processes.

Michael Walton, President of BCD and the moderator of the session, emphasized the significance of AI in food safety, stating, “AI is not just a buzzword in food safety; it’s a game-changer. We’re seeing real-world applications that are making our food supply safer and more efficient than ever before.”

Tina Gettis, Manager of Business Development and Communications at the Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH), highlighted the critical role of food safety and collaboration, noting, “Food safety is the foundation for the food industry. As the industry tries to understand AI and look for more efficient solutions for gathering pertinent data, what are the best options when there are so many? There is more knowledge needed and so much to learn, and collaboration is key; all we have to do is listen.”

Carrie Rigdon, Research Director at the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO), discussed the spectrum of understanding AI in food safety, saying, “At the intersection of AI and food safety right now, we see two ends of a spectrum: the data-savvy professionals ready to explore new tools and the beginners asking, ‘What’s AI?’. We must create dedicated spaces that support learning and collaboration for all to drive innovation in food safety.”

Christopher Hoemeke, Global Key Account Manager at Rockwell Automation, shared insights on the untapped potential of existing data, stating, “Current food safety programs have all the data they need to empower transformation and fortify existing programs, but this data is often just sitting in a file cabinet, considering chart recorders still exist! This siloed data can provide insights and bring a predictive nature to safety with the right tools like the BCD iLabs platform.”

Overall, the webinar successfully brought together professionals from various sectors of the food industry, from R&D to manufacturing and quality control. Attendees left with a deeper understanding of how to leverage AI to create safer, higher-quality food products and streamline safety processes. We are grateful to all our panellists and participants for making this event a valuable experience. Stay tuned for future webinars as we continue to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence and food safety, paving the way for a safer, more efficient food ecosystem.
